TGIF! And time again for the Friday Forum! Play if you like! Have a good weekend all!
1) What are your plans for this upcoming weekend? Saturday Niel and I are going to a communion party and Sunday is my father's 60th birthday so we are having a little something for him. We have been busy every weekend since Easter and it won't stop till the third weekend in May. Do you usually schedule your weekend activities in advance, or are you pretty spontaneous and do whatever you feel like at the time? A little of both.
2) What would be your ideal weekend, if you could choose to do
anything that you wanted to do? Well if I had Brittany money I would travel and experience new things! Where would you spend it, and why? Places I have never been.
What would you do? Who would you spend it with (or would you choose to
be alone)? I would take Niel with me.
3) What was one of the best weekends of your life? How about the
worst? Why? What happened? My 30th Birthday weekend was really nice. Even though I had to spend it mostly working. Niel got to come along with me and we got to hang out with some cool people.
4) Are you pretty social with others during the weekend (i.e., getting
together with friends and family, going out, attending parties), or do
you tend to stay around home most weekends? I'd like to be.
5) Do you ever tackle weekend projects around the house? Like what? Do
you have to work on the weekends? I try to clean on Friday nights and the rest of the week just tidy up so things don't get too crazy.

Remember that neat movie The Royal Tennenbaums and all the quirky drawings of the family. The art was designed by Eric Chase Anderson, brother of Wes Anderson, creator of The Royal Tennenbaums. Eric has recently published a graphic, novel "Chuck Dugan is Awol". Aahh another reason to love those talented Andersons!

Also talented chica Craftster is in this month's issue of Jane magazine. The article mentions her website and the cool apartment she lives in.
Niel surprised me yesterday with Embroideries and I already finished reading it! Thank you honey and the book was great!
I always had suspicions that American Idol was rigged but last not just proved it for me. Blech.

Every time we are in Florida we eat at Alfredo's in Epcot. We make sure to order Aqua Panna. Normally we don't ask for bottled water when we do dine out. And we use Brita for home. But this water is so very delicious and crisp tasting. Niel came home excited because he had found some the other day. And now we have some for a special occasion.

I recently saw McCann's Irish oatmeal on sale at my local supermarket and purchased some. I really like the nutty, earthy taste. This is the first time I had tasted oatmeal without any type of sweetener(usually brown sugar) and I really enjoyed it.

“Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”
Adolf Hitler, to his generals.
That was an excerpt from The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America's Response
One of the many books on The Armenian Genocide. Amazon has 143 titles under that subject alone and 1433 about Armenia. Most people have never even heard of Armenia. A small country in Eurasia. From the beginning of Armenia's existence, it was controlled by other countries and its once great and fruitful land stolen from. The first counry to accept Christianity. Armenia was under Soviet rule for 75 years and many people assume Armenian's are Russians. Most people don't see that the two countries do not have the same language, customs, foods or heritage. Most people do not realize how many countries made up the Soviet Union and they were all different from one another. If most people cannot even take the time to understand this distinction, to even know other cultures outside of their own. It does not surprise me that most people do not care to know that over a million Armenians were tortured to death by the Turkish government during W.W.I between the years 1915 and 1918, just for being Armenian. Armenians lived somewhat peacefully with their Turkish rulers until a band of extreme nationalists (Young Turks ) took power and blamed the Armenians for their own countrymen not being as well off. Armenians were (and still are) the scholars, the builders and leaders in Turkey. The Young Turks wanted Turkey just to be made up of Turks and to take over Armenia's vast land and make one large Turkey. My paternal grandmother lost her sister and her family's land during this horrific time. Since I was a child I heard stories of the Genocide at home, yet in my American school there were no mention of this. It is as if the truth was wiped from history books or just not cared about at all. I remember some time ago having a conversation online with a stranger, an acquaintance I believe of someone I know. The stranger challenged how I knew more about Armenians and the Genocide than the media outlets. (Yes its an absurd question.) What he failed to realize is that most media outlets don't care about getting the information correct. They care about ratings and selling papers. So they will omit information truthfully knowing that the vast majority of the population can be easily swayed with stories of JLo and Brittany. Today is the 90 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. There will be events commemorating the survivors (there are not many left). I hope one day Turkey will admit to its wrong doing (an understatement), that America will pass a bill recognizing the day and that a tragedy like that will never happen again.

I am very impressed with Dean Cain.

I have two Friday Forum's this week. I didn't do last week's. Play along if you like!
This week's Friday Forum Bathtub Junkie dedicated to her grandmother who loved the color purple.
Current:
1) Do you have any purple clothes in your closet? If so, what items
are they? Do you enjoy wearing the color purple (or shades of it)? Actually I have a bit of lavender on my watch and two solid purple (more lavender) tops and two other tops with purple in it. Didn't realize that I liked the color so much.
2) Do you like the color purple in general? Why/why not? What does the
color purple mean to you (i.e., how would you describe purple and its
connotations)? How does the color make you feel? I like lavender better. It's more tranquil and reminds me of Spring.
3) Name some purple objects that are surrounding you right now (if any). I don't have any.
4) Have you ever eaten any purple foods or had any purple drinks (or
would you)? Why/why not? Well I do like eggplants and grape juice/soda.
5) Would you decorate any part of your home with purple? Why/why not? Hmm maybe. I hadn't put too much thought into that since I generally like warm/Autumn colors best.
Last week's:
Last
1) ... gift that someone gave you? Was it for a special occasion or
just out of the blue? I got very nice gifts for my birthday. What's the last gift that you have given to someone else, and why? Did they like it? I just sent a wedding gift to someone.
2) ... time that you took a walk? Where did you go? Did you walk with
someone or go alone? Did you see anything interesting along the way?
Do you enjoy walking as a form of exercise? I went for a walk during lunch. Just window browsing. I like walking. I could probably walk the same way every day and find something I had not noticed before.
3) ... thing that you thought of before going to bed last night? Nothing in particular, maybe seeing a movie. Why
was it on your mind? Did you sleep well last night? Did you have any
dreams? I slept well. No back ache. I don't remember what I dreamt.
4) ... day of high school like for you? What were your feelings on
that day? Do you still keep in touch with any high school friends? It was so sad. I knew everyone was going their own separate ways. We all didn't try enough when we went to separate colleges.
5) ... phone call you made? To whom, and how long did you talk? Are
you on the phone often? How many phones do you have at home? The last person I spoke to was Niel. I am on the phone a lot for my job. We only have one phone at home.
And I found the below test on Caterpillar Baby's blog. She also has a second blog, all about her crafts and cooking. Check it out here. Happy weekend all!

Lately I am very much into design. I came across Method handwash and fell for the look of their soap dispenser. I like its smooth lines and funky, modern look. Method comes in a variety of scents. I have only tried two so far. Lavendar (too strong) and Green Tea (very nice. I think there is a touch of rose water in it also). I want to try the remaing four scents (Sweet Water, Mandarin Bergamot, Pomegranate, and Pink Grapefruit). An added bonus is Method is all natural, biodegradable and besides hand wash they also sell cleaning products. I was thinking if Niel and I had little ones one day I would like to purchase all natural cleaning products and now I know where to start.

I read in a local paper that am Marjane Satrapi is coming out with a third autobiographical graphic novel, Embroideries. It will be a continuation of her two first books which I loved (Persepolis and Persepolis II)). I highly recommend her work!

I found three neat quizzes I would like to share.
The first one I found on Goldeelox and Progodess' blogs.
This one I found on Niel's blog. Well this one is not really a quiz. There are apparently some celebrities who give an alias when they check into hotels for privacy. Niel found a site where they give regular folk alias's too. I am Kobe Arizona. The neat part is there is an option on the site that will give you information about your new last name, which is usually a state. This is what I found out about Arizona.
And this last quiz I found on Dave's site.

Your type is best summed up by the word "counselor", which belongs to the larger group of idealists. Only 2% of the population share your type. You are so empathic that you often know what others need before they know themselves. You are a complex person who can deal with complicated issues and people, almost prefer to, as you love problem solving. You can be something of an idealist or perfectionist, and should try to take yourself a little less seriously. You are a supportive and insightful romantic partner, encouraging your mate to have dreams and work hard to make those dreams come true. Because you are so creative, you have a wealth of ideas to help them toward those goals. You need harmony so much that you are driven to resolve conflict quickly, as long as the terms don't violate your ethics. You feel the most appreciated when your partner admires your creativity, trusts your inspirations, and respects your values. It is also vitally important that your partner be open and emotionally available - in other words, that they be willing to share themselves completely. First please check out Niel's Sonic Youth review here. Just look for Niel under reviews. Go Niel!
My coworker sent this article to me and I wanted to share it. I know it is good news for paraplegic's, but I worry what other hands this discovery will get into.
I am so glad that wedding talk of Charles and Camilla has died down, but I fear that there lives will be pried into as much as Princess Diana's was. Except that I felt bad for Diana while I don't care at all for Charles and Camilla. Blech.
Anyone been watching The Barkers on MTV? I always thought that Travis Barker from Blink 182 was pretty cool, but my God MTV is doing a great job with the editing to make them seem trashy. Or it could be they just really are? And I really want to give the Barkers the benefit of the doubt, but they made Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson seemed like refined geniuses. And honestly I don't dislike the Lachey's. Oh man I can't wait for the Spears-Federline experince on UPN. LOL.
My early perdicitions for American Idol's two remaining contestants are Constantin and Vonzell. They are not my favorites (Bo and Kerry are) but based on last week's performances I am sure they will be.
Squilky and Leslie asked me what music Niel put on my Ipod and who participated. Here is the list of songs and everyone who gave joined in. Thank you all again very much!! It was interesting to see what songs people picked.

Niel and I had a nice weekend. Friday we ran some errands, did laundry and got ready for Niel's camping trip. We were very frustrated with UPS because they were holding Niel's glove hostage at their warehouse. Finally we retrieved the glove and Niel left for his trip. I was doing some cleaning when Niel called around 10PM saying he was heading back because the campsite was filled with racoons. So he and the scouts came back. I was sorry for Niel. Saturday after my dentist appointment, we saw Fever Pitch. It was a very cute movie. Where we parked our car is a lovely area of Queens. I think it sort of looks like what Austria or Germany would look like. Niel went back to the camp site because even though his area was unusable there were activities planned for the other troops in another part of the park. I went to hang out with my friend Isabel. We went to Tea and Sympathy. We had a lot of fun catching up and eating. The food is really good! I ordered Welsh Rarebit and English Lemonade. (It tasted like the best lemony seltzer in the world) and Isabel had a Lamb Patty. For dessert we had tea and shared scones with jam and butter. I felt so British. LOL. Next door they have a shop with British goods. We made a list of a few other places we would like to try. We're calling it Isabel and Ani Dine New York. LOL. Isabel and I also spotted Paul Cole at the table next to us. My first! Sunday Niel hung out with his buddies and after he returned, Niel said the weather was so lovely we should go to the park. And was it ever packed with people and their pets. LOL. We threw a soft ball around to help Niel with his game since he is on his companies soft ball league. Niel is very excited about it. I catch very well. I throw the ball pretty good under but not over. Hopefully we can get out to the park more after work and not just during weekends. All in all a nice weekend. I received some more lovely birthday gifts today in the mail. I am blown away by people's generosity. People whom I never met but who are so thoughtful to think of my birthday with lovely comments, ecards, snail mail cards and presents. Thank you Lisanne(again), Enid and Jessica!!!!
Jessica sent me a lovely handmade bracelet in one of my favorite colors that came in a cute box in another one of my favorite colors, some type of flower from Taiwan that is sold through a Canadian website(too cool) and a cute cupcake card! Very kind of you! All gifts were wrapped with a pretty paper.
Enid brought me items from my wish list! Nigella Lawson's "Nigella Bites" and a cupcake recipe book! . I hope I can replicate some of the lovely designs! Thank you so much!
And Lisanne also brought me items from my wish list! A dinosaur pancake mold and I an Eloise Book! Woo hoo! I think I have the whole collection now. I am still so much of a kid at heart when it comes to some of my tastes.
Thank you so very much again and it was a real nice way to end the day after the fiasco Niel and I had to endure in dealing with the service industry. Time to send out thank you cards. Have a good weekend all. Click on pics to enlarge.

I received a totally unexpected package on Wednesday. More birthday gifts! It was from Giao! It was kind of eerie how much she nailed what items I would like. I got a scrapbook, international stickers, scrapbook supply, stationary with my first initial on it and a strawberry growing kit (my first!) It was a very nice surprise! Thanks Giao!

Please go show some blog love to a new blogger Holly! Yep Holly has a blog now. So please go comment on her bloggie. She's nice, funny and loves cats.

I enjoy mini products. Such as mini cupcakes, muffins and drinks. I am happy to see that most manufacturors have made miniature versions of their products. Such as Welcher's Grape soda has Welchito's. Sometimes a person cannot drink a 12 ounce drink and now there is an alternative. Plus I think the name is cute! Yay!

I was very impressed with the variety of food Albany had to offer. Living in New York city for the majority of my life and being accustomed to international fare at my fingertips I wasn't expecting much. And I was pleasantly wrong about the great eating establishments Albany had. The Vietnamese restaurant My Linh stood out the most in my mind. The decoration was soft and reflected nature. The food was light and flavorful. The interesting part was the dessert menu also had American sweets as well as Vietnamese. Dave and Holly were more adventurous in their dessert choice than Niel and I. We just ordered Molten Lava Cake and Flan. Thanks for the pics Dave. Click on pics to enlarge.

Nothing better then looking at the clock and seeing its 4:30. It's almost time to go home, and the smell of garlic roasting is waifting through the vents from the Italian restaurant downstairs and is embracing the air. Actually being on vacation is probably better.
This is going to be a long post to recap my birthday and the weekend. Both were very nice!! I woke up to Niel wishing me Happy Birthday in his groggy morning state on Thursday morning. He is very cute. Then I saw my mom before work. She gave me some gorgeous white roses, a bracelet and a cute mini mug. People at my office congratulated me and I got the funniest card from a coworker. The card sum's up how I feel about turning 30. LOL.

I got more well wishes from email, on my blog and calls from my mother in law, dad, my aunt, and brother.
We left work early and finally arrived in Albany around six. I got out of my work clothes and we got some dinner from the restaurant in the hotel and brought it back up to our room. Niel was tired from the drive and it was raining so we stayed in. The restaurant had really good food! Nachos, wings and chicken enchiladas. We watched some TV while we ate. I enjoy watching local TV when I am on a trip. Niel also had purchased a really awesome vanilla cake from the Cupcake Cafe. If you are in the New York city area, it is a must to try!
Niel then gave me my gifts. A Jem shirt, a Pomegranate necklace(big in Armenian culture. He purchased it on ebay from Armenia), a Fossil watch, and an Ipod mini. The last gift was especially sweet because he got all my buddies, blog and non blog to think of songs I would like and he added them to the my ipod. I didn't think much of them at first but they are so easy to carry around and can hold a variety of songs. Instead of me having to drag my cd's and cd player everywhere. So whenever I play that list of songs, I remember Niel, my buddies and my 30th birthday. So thank you everyone who participated! Click on pics to enlarge.

While I was busy with work, Niel got to swim a bit in the pool, do some writing and relaxing. He got to see Dave, then when Holly and I got out of work the four of us went out for dinner at Bombers. A neat Mexican restaurant in town. They serve the biggest burritos. Afterwards we went to park near Dave's old apartment to walk off the meal and watched some dogs for a bit. Afterwards we went to get ice cream at this neat ice cream stand near their place. They served the biggest ice cream cones! Saturday Niel and Dave went to the car show and during a lunch break the four of us went to a yummy sandwich shop called Debbie's Kitchen and after work went to a very cool Vietnamese restaurant called My Linh. I hadn't any Vietnamese since Niel and I were in Canada. The place was elegant and the food was delicious. We capped off the evening at Jillians playing video games. We actually were lucky enough to see Dave and Holly the entire weekend. They were very gracious to us, and took us to see many sites and to eat lots of yummy meals. Niel and I had a great time being in their company. Albany is a lovely city combining old and new. Dave told us lots of interesting facts about Albany. Hopefully we can visit them more often.

The convention was good. I hadn't been to one since college and it was nice to be surrounded by like minded people from a variety of media's. We had good teachers, good food, and lots of breaks with a sundae bar, and a Coney Island bar(popcorn, pretzels, and more ice cream). Our room was pretty nice too. I like the layout and if we ever have a bedroom that large I would set it up like that hotel room. My favorite item was the makeup mirror in the bathroom. I don't wear makeup but I was able to tweeze a lot easier.
Sunday we came back home and went to my parents for my birthday dinner. My mom cooked up a storm as usual and my dad barbecued. It was an Armenian style BBQ with pork chops and chicken. My mom also decorated the house nicely. I got loads more of neat gifts from our families and they were also very generous.
We also got the package from the Squilky's They sent me a neat Tinker Bell bag, a cheery Welcome Spring sign for the door and Eliose books! Goldeelox sent me a card and CD of Disney stuff and Bathtub Junkie and her family a Jello cookbook and a Little House Book. I also got more birthday cards in the mail. Thank you Ted and Maria, another aunty, Jess, and Irah. And thank you to Craig and Isabel, Yvett Shannon and Jessica for my ecards.
It was a pretty neat birthday and BIG thank you to Niel and everyone else. Here are some more pics of my weekend.
