I recently finished taking a few Wilton cake decorating courses at my local craft store. It was a great experience. I was part of a group of ladies taught by a fabulous cake decorator. We all took the class for various reasons. One was a bride looking to possibly make her own cake or cupcakes for her wedding in October. One was an elderly lady who had more time to devote to hobbies. But most of us wanted to improve on our cake decorating skills. The experience was a lot of fun and educational. I felt like I was being taught at a prestigious baking school. The instructor had four jobs. Her day job was an assistant, on weekend she was her church's secretary, plus she makes cakes on the side for whatever occasion and to keep her skills sharp she teaches for Wilton. It was a little sad to say goodbye to my classmates and teacher. Below is one of the cakes I made.

WOW....Your cake looks AWESOME!!!
You've got some great cake decorating skillz :) You're cake looks great. I've thought about taking some of those classes too.
Please dont mention that class to Rachel. She's already addicted to Michaels, I don't need her taking classes down there too ;-).
Thank you really for the kind comments:) I appreciate it. Mike I am afraid if Rachel looks at the website she will see the cake decorating classes are offered. They are pretty inexpensive for what they show. But the equipment can add up. But the store does offer coupons and in addition if you do take the class it is 10% off the orders.
Mike, she'll go to Michael's and do class stuff not necessarily shop. And think about the uninterupted Yankee time you could have :)
Niel, you've got a point. BRILLIANT!!!
Ani, the cake looks awesome. I dont know if I would have the heart to cut it up and eat it.
Yeah the supplies are how they get you. They offer a class for $30 and then they require you to buy supplies which they just so happen to carry at Michaels.
Man, now I really want a piece of cake.
ou were a big help honey!!
Thanks Mike:) The cakes went to Niel's office. I figure with the coupons and discounts it wouldn't be so bad. Sometimes I would go to A.C. Moore because they are a bit cheaper. Plus I am hoping to use my supplies in the future. I want cake too. LOOOOL.
Thank you Amanda:) I have way too many hobbies!
Whoa, that's awesome, good job! I have trouble making...um...plain old cake. Doh!
Thank you Robyn:) The class helped ALOT!
That is absolutely AMAZING!!! You have a lot of talent! You go girl! I would love to learn how to do that also. I just haven't found the time yet.
Thanks much MM! I have been trying to comment on your site for the longest time now but everytime I got it freezes my computer. I have been wanting to email you but I can't find your email:(
OMG! Ani! That is AMAZING! I took the Wilton class like level one, and dude, I never made it up to big ass bows and cute wee flowers! You rock!
Thanks Shannon. I took classes one through three. There is a gum paste one I am considering taking but only if the cake instructor I had will be teaching it. I liked working with fondant which is what the above cake is covered in and what I used to make the bow.
I disabled some things on my blog. I hope it works for you now. I had some others tell me the same thing.
AWESOME JOB! I would love to learn how to decorate cakes!
I'm *totally* amazed, Ani! That cake is gorgeous! Maybe you could somehow turn it into a business? You are *really* good! I had a blast decorating Lucas's birthday cake and my friend Shannon's baby shower cake. It's so much fun! My SIL is into cake decorating, too. I want to make a bunny cake for Easter! Side note ... did you know that Jamie on "Mythbusters" went to my high school? :)
MM it works at home but not at work. It's ok. Glad I can comment again. LOL.
Thanks Lisa! Take the class it was fun! Michaels and A.C. Moore both have them.
You are too king Lisanne:)!! I have way too many interests and I wish I did the cooking/baking thing sooner. But I am keeping open to it. Still got ALOT to learn:) You know I knew Jamie was from the same state as you but what are the chances you went to the same high school! That is tooooo freaking cool!!!!!!!
