I went to a grocery store in my neighborhood that sold Irish breakfast sausages, which I wrote about in my March 17 post, and this time purchased Irish bacon. The texture reminds me of Canadian bacon, but is much saltier sort of like country ham. Just my kind of breakfast meat.

Irish bacon is gorgeous! It is the same as Danish bacon, if you ever come across that one. When I lived in England with hubby, we couldn't find streaky (American) bacon, so we had the Irish and Danish bacon all the time. I can find Danish bacon here in Atlanta, but at an outrageous price, so we only have it as a treat...unfortunately.

Oooh Danish Bacon. Sounds good. How come its the same as Irish bacon? The same cut of meat? Oh wow you got to live in England. Very cool! I've never been to Hotlanta either. Sounds neat too. Thanks for visiting!

Irish and Danish bacon are the same cut, it is called "back bacon" and is 70% leaner than american bacon. So, it is healthy too!!

Here is a site to purchase Danish bacon: http://www.forgi.com/shoppe/shoppe.asp?cat=3&subcat=Bacon

My hubby is from London, so when we met, he was there, and I was in Atlanta, so I went to live with him before we married and then he moved to the US. Food wise, in London, I have had the most wonderful Indian and Chinese food. Basic everyday food though was severely lacking. Sort of like Atlanta! Here it is either fried or you don't need teeth to eat it. Here is a true southern recipe: Canned (yes canned)string beans, a hunk of fat back. Boil beans and fat back for a good hour, or more. Drain beans, chunk up the fat back and toss together with lots of extra butter, salt and pepper.

Now doesn't that make you want to give up eating!

Enjoy.

Oooh healthy. I loved that the Irish Bacon was so salty. I wonder if the flavorings of the Danish Bacon are the same. Thanks for the link.
What a cool story as how you met.
I have heard the international food in London is marvelous and the everyday food is getting better. Especially pub food.
My coworker is from the North Carolina and she says the food is from the South not so great.
