Recently it was my mom's birthday. I knew she enjoys Sushi; so me, Niel, my brother and Christine decided for her birthday we would take her and my dad to a Japanese restaurant in my neighborhood. The food and service is fabulous and we had fun. We ordered:Shumai(steamed Shrimp dumplings), Gyoza(fried pork dumplings), Sweet potato tempura roll, spider roll, caviar roll, and Love Boat(combo of Shashimi(no rice) and sushi) that came in a boat. I was happy my dad also enjoyed Japanese food. Even the Sushi! My mom especially loved the pickled ginger. She ate a bowl of it. Seriously. My mom was really good at mastering holding chopstikcs. My dad gave up after a bit and used a fork. We all admitted to using our chopsticks and stabbing into food at times. Afterwards we came back to Niel and my place for some cake and rainbow cookies while my mom opened up her presents. Pics here. Those few days were good minus Niel's softball league getting rained out. And me having to go to a dentist. As an April Fool's joke she said my bottom teeth needed to be pulled. LOL. We watched Lord of War. Very serious. Seemed more like a documentary. Got new cellphones. I can take photos now with my phone! And also we both purchased work shoes. Went to a Mets game. They won. Niel was so happy! Stadiums now are offering food options with more variety besides the usual ballpark fare. Such as Pizza, hot dogs, beer, pretzels, peanuts, etc. My favorites are corn dogs and sausage and peppers. Shea now offers cuban sandwiches and Arepas(griddle cakes with mozzarella cheese. The Foodnetwork had a special about it too. Pictures here. We also ate at a place we hadn't before. Fun times.

That sounds like so much fun. I have to admit that I cannot use chopsticks. I would be stabbing things too :)

Another beautiful cake! Happy birthday to your mom! I've never had sushi ... in the midwest, we call that stuff "bait." LOL! :D No, seriously ... glad you guys had a good time.

That was the first time my dad tried it and he liked it! We all enjoyed the salmon the best. It is creamy. And is very fresh fish so people won't get sick. This is also why it is pricey too.

I LOVE sushi. I'm half Japanese so it sort of comes natural for me. My mom makes really good homemade sushi.
That cake is sooo beautiful, too!

Sushi is so beautiful to me- though I can't stomach it.

Your cake is gorgeous!

And your dad reminds me of Robert Deniro!

Thanks Laura. Sushi made me love ginger to but not as much as my mom. LOL.

You are a luck gal! Thanks for stopping by Purple Cupcake and the compliment.

Thanks Shannon. I'll make a cake for you someday:) Some people just don't like Sushi. It is a ok. There are other Japanese cooked dishes such as dumplings I think you would enjoy. I got to tell my dad. LOL!

Wow, I always thought your dad looked like somebody, but I could never put my finger on it. Shannon is right, he does look like Rovert DeNiro. Next time I see him I'm going to ask him to say

"I have nipples, can you milk me Fokker!?"

I think you know what to get your dad for fathers day this year, a nice pinstripe Armani suit and a tommy gun ;-).

I think my dad wouldn't have an idea about Deniro's later movies. That character was creepy in Meet The Fockers.
