This is the third time this month I have purchased these lovely bundles of dough and pork. The first time I did I was coming out of work late and I knew dinner would take a while to prepare. I wanted an appetizer to tied Niel and I over. I was near the Asian market and decided to see what I could find there. And did I get lucky when I spotted these dumplings across from the cashier. They looked so welcoming. They were the perfect tied me over food.

Mmmm. I love dumplings. I would like to try and make some one day.
My mom makes potato dumplings which is like a German dish. What are the Asian dumplings made out of?

They are similar Mike. I looove German dumplings too. Niel has a good theory that the entire world eats similar foods such as dumplings but they make it their own depending on the filling. Have you ever ordered the Chinese dumplings for take out?

I forgot to answer your question Mike. The ones I have had can be plain pork. But they also come pork and seafood or pork and veggie. Or just seafood. You can also find them at Japanese restaurants. The Gyoza is fried pork and they also have steamed shrimp.

It is not a theory ... it is a fact. Think about it. There are only a handful of animals that people eat - fish, cows, pigs, birds.
There are only a handful of grains and spices. You put them togetehr, put them over fire, or in water you are going to get basically the same stuff.

No I've never tried the dumplings at a Chinese restaurant. I always thought they were filled with shrimp and crabmeat which I dont really like. If I see them with just pork, Ill give them a try.
Yeah go for it. Some places are better than others. At a Japanese place they are called Gyoza and are pan fried while the seafood one is called Shumai and is steamed.
OH MY GOD, dumplings are one of my most favorite foods. I grew up eating pork dumplings...store bought, but still good. :)
I agree with the dumpling "theory". They're like pierogies and ravioli. And then there are so many kinds of dumplings within Asia. Mm mm.
